ibiubu Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 I love FileMaker as much as the next person, but every now and then you come across something and wonder what they were thinking. Example: you set the available menu commands to edit only, thus limiting users from creating or deleting records along with other menu commands that are not related to editing. BUT why in heavens name would they include the ability to perform new find requests, duplicate find requests, omit find and the like with this. Would not "Find" functions be considered part of editing a record? LR
harryk Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 Sorry, your post is confusing about what FM does or does not with FIND options when edit is prohibited, especially when reading your other mail with the same subject. Does FM exclude FIND options with edit-prohibited, or does it include FIND-options. : It should include of course, as FIND-options are passive viewing of records. Harryk
CobaltSky Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 I tend to agree - the purpose of performing a find is to locate records so that you can look at them. It doesn't change them in any way. In that sense it relates to the requirement of 'browsing' first and foremost.
