I have a field that I want to extract the middle number using a calculation field.

3-5-4 ---> 5

or

10-10-7 ----> 10

the lenght of the numbers are not consistent but the dashes are there to separate the numbers.

Use this formula:

MiddleWords(Substitute(TheField,"-"," "),2,1)
