veganboyjosh Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 i would like to write a scipt that saves my files at the end of the day, and saved as filenameddmmyy or somethingto that effect. at the end of every month or so, i know i'd have to delete the files i'd saved as filenameddmmyy, just to empty up some disk space. the problem i'm having/afraid of having is that as i'm learning and implementing new things in fmp, i may update something and think i've got all the bugs worked out, until it's too late. i haven't done anything disastrous (yet, knock on wood), and the way i've set things up so far i've been able to reconstruct the lost/altered records one way or another. right now we have 5 or so files with 100 or so records in each, but as you know the files tend to grow almost exponentially. and as my scriptwriting and relationship defining gets more layered and complex, i'm afraid of getting in too deep without backing it all up. i know there's a "save copy as" script step, but it seems to only save it as a filename that already exists. any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance. josh
Vaughan Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 You will have to either let the user name the saved file (by deselecting the specify file option), use a utility (plugin or OS-scripting) to rename the file after it has been saved.
