Open MS Word Template

I'm interested in creating a function within a solution I'm creating. When the user clicks on a button, it will open an MS Word document (the file will actually be a "stationery file", so the user will not alter the original template.).

I'm pretty sure I know how to do this with AppleScript. However, I'd like my solution to work on a PC as well and don't know to approach this in the Windows environment. Will I need to use a VB Script?

On both platforms, I'd also like to specify where the Word document gets created by using a field value. Any info or thoughts on this? Will this require a plug-in?

Thanks in advance. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
