Benzie Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 Hope someone can help... We have developed an application in Filemaker Pro ver 5.5, and are wanting to create a Runtime versions of the application. We have been offered a second hand(unopened box) Developer version 5. We are not sure if we will be able to use this version 5 of the developer to convert version 5.5 files. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. (The other option is to bite the bullet and purchase ver 6....but at this stage we would like to keep our costs as low as possible...)
CobaltSky Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 The file format for versions 5.5 and 5.0 are the same, so your files will open and - at least structurally - will bind with the version 5.0 developer tool. However a number of additional features were included in version 5.5 and should any of these have been used in your solution, they will not work in version 5.0 (or in a runtime you create with version 5.0). Full details of the functions and script steps which were added in version 5.5 can be accessed online at: New Script Steps In FileMaker Pro 5.5: http://www.filemaker.com/ti/107463.html New Calculation, Design, And Status Functions In FileMaker Pro 5.5: http://www.filemaker.com/ti/107462.html Once you've checked out the above Knowledgebase articles, you'll need to check over your database to see if any of the 5.5-only features have been used. If they have, you will have to decide whether you can work around them and change the code accordingly, before you bind with v5.0. If you find there are any that you can't find a work-around for and also can't live without, you're going to have to bite the bullet on v6, I'm afraid.
Benzie Posted January 3, 2003 Author Posted January 3, 2003 Ray Thanks for that. Much appreciate your help. Benzie
