Dot Matrix Label's crash FMP 5.5

I have a client that has to print long label jobs on a dot matrix printer. When we moved from FMP II to 5.5 and a new MacOS machine, we had to replace the old trusty imagewriter with a new Epson dot matrix printer with an ethernet card installed. The thing prints like a champ except when running those labels. It will print the first 100 or so pages of labels, and then locks up. You have to reboot the machine (running 9.2.2) and recover the database. The printer can print hundreds of pages in applications other than FMP. Epson says it's not their problem. Anybody have a clue.
