Newbies photophile Posted February 11, 2003 Newbies Posted February 11, 2003 I am using FMP 5.5 on XP Pro and need to enter special characters. I have made a database for my slides and use it to print labels for them, so space is of concern on a tiny 7/16" x 1-7/8" label. So my question is this I'm using arial fonts and would like to continue to, but it will not allow me to enter the special characters female and male symbols. Even if I just had to change the font for this one symbol that wouldn't be so bad, but I can't seem to find one that will let me do it. It always just inserts a ? Any help offered would be appreciated from a newbie...
Vaughan Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 This is a font issue, not specifically FMP. If on Windows, look at the Wingdings font. If on Mac, try Zapf Dingbats. You could always create the symbol as a tiny graphic using FMP's layout drawing tools and include it on the layout.
Newbies photophile Posted February 11, 2003 Author Newbies Posted February 11, 2003 This is a font issue, not specifically FMP. If on Windows, look at the Wingdings font. I should have specified that the arial font does contain these symbols. It just won't display them in FMP. I can use them in any other program by holding the ALT key and typing u+2642 for male and u+2640 for female. As well I CAN get some of the other symbols I use such as TM for trademark and the copyright symbol to work in FMP by the same method holding ALT and typing u+00a9 for copyright and u+2122 for trademark. I just don't understand why it seems to be selective and not let me use the male and female symbols. As for creating a graphic my output system is too advanced to insert a graphic on the labels which need it, as it takes in to account blank or missing labels on the sheet to be printed. Nice idea I just don't think I could get it to work as I have spent a lot of time seeing that it is as automated as possible. Thanks!
