A stand-alone Reports Generator for FM

Featured Replies

  • Newbies

We are considering building a stand-alone report generator that permits FM users to easily do complex reports with a full scripting language built in. It is slated to allow users to maintain separate files -- outside the FM project database -- so they can easily be distributed. The product will have an easy-to-use layout editor that gives FM users the same type of power and control over their data as users of advanced SQL reporting solutions such as Crystal Writer or other high-end Windows-only products. The cross-platform design makes it easy to integrate within a mixed system environment. Because Super Reports is an external application permitting direct access to all major SQL systems (such as My SQL,) a report or view is not constrained or confined to a single database. This means that the user will have INSTANT access to File Maker data -- without waiting to even open the FM database.

We are asking FM users for FEATURES that you would like to see in a Super Reports for File Maker. Direct your comments and suggestions to me here or directly to: [email protected]

I'm a little concerned about being able to access FMP tables without going through the layers of security that my clients require for their solutions. I'm delighted to hear about a new report generator but am very concerned about the security ramifications.

would this allow the user to generate their own report by picking what fields they would like in it and then clicking a button? laugh.gif
