Hi. This is my first post.

Im learning FM and am new to using it as a relational DB, although I have used it casually for years as a flat file DB. Im trying to build a DB for my research and teaching in industrial design. It will have several files to store text and author information, images and video files.

You want to use conditional value lists. Check out the documentation on value lists. Basically you'll need to set a file that has all of the category/sub-category/sub-sub-category combinations. Create relationships from your Analysis file to this new file based on the category field and another relationship based on the sub-category field. Then create value lists based on these relationships.

Thanks Chuck,

I had read about "conditional value lists" but couldnt remember the term! I will try what you suggested and see how things go.
