How references work when inserting a picture

Inserting a picture as a reference is the best way having pictures in FM. The problem is to know how FM manage these references confused.gif

If I insert a picture from a folder on my desktop, it makes the link from there. I can move this DB to another location, it will always find the picture.

Now if I move this picture to another folder, it won't find the picture and FM displays a message instead of the picture. BUT if I put this image in the folder where the database is located, it will display the picture again!!!!!!!!!!!! shocked.gif How can FM knows that the picture is now on the same folder as the DB?: confused.gif

The other point is if I store the picture on a folder, but located on a server, it will only display this picture when I mount this server. If I create a folder on my desktop with the same name of the server I mount and put the picture there, FM doesn't display the picture. Why FM doesn't do the reference with the picture in this case????? confused.gif

As you can see, I have some troubles understanding how FM manage these references and it's very important to know it for me.

Thanks smile.gif

The application folder is the Default Folder, iow the place to look for if the link is broken.

For local files the DB folder will be searched too.

When you are dealing with remote hosts (or shared volumes for displaying images) the answer is always the same:

The volume is not mounted (or host file not reachable) FM looks in Default Folder which is always application folder.
