If it were a calculation you were wanting, then an unstored calc with the formula set to: Year(Status(CurrentDate) would always return the current year.

However I take it from the way you worded your question that you are wanting a way to simply make an existing field *display* the year (rather than calculating it in a separate field). That being the case, go into layout mode, select the (date) field you want to have display only the year, then go to the format menu and select date. Within the resulting dialog, select custom format and then select
