Import/Export script step problem

Featured Replies

I have a set of files developed on a Mac that is being migrated to FM Server (on a Win2000 Server box). These files run a series of import scripts, both importing from related FM files, and importing text file dumps that are positioned on our NT Server's hard drive. I created them in FM 5, then 5.5, and am now running them in 6.

When I place all the files on FM Server, I found I have to open & close each import & export script and re-specify the file location. So far so good. This works to respecify the path to the Filemaker files.

But when I try to do the same thing to the text files, it fails. I've tried unchecking "save relative path" and it doesn't "take." That is, when I reopen the script & highlight the export step, the Save Relative box has rechecked itself. I'm trying to avoid clicking "replace" on the keep/replace dialog, because this will mess up the field mapping, which is tedious to redo on complex text files.

More seriously, it now seems to forget the name of the file it is supposed to both import and export, though these filenames are there in the script step. When the import script is run, I get an error that says it can't find the file. I click continue & a window appears containing the files it wants to hunt through, and there the file is. I click on it & import continues normally.

The same thing happens with the export script step. The name of the file which the exported text needs is built into the script step, yet it does not name the file this. It appears to skip over the filenaming process altogether and export into nameless limbo. I've tried manually exporting & naming the file, then clicking replace to rememorize. But the next time it is run, same thing.

The only difference is that the files now residing on FM server must now travel across the network to find a folder instead of finding the files right next door in the same folder as the FM files. Perhaps there is something I'm not grasping about the relative path option. But either way, it looks as if it cannot remember the filename it is either hunting for, or exporting as.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I can sympathise with you, as I have encountered the same problem (still unsolved). Since you posted your message some months ago, I was wondering if you had managed to solve the problem yet...

I am running FM Server 5.5 on a WinNT box, and a scripted export of summary data to a temporary (fmp) file with replace no dialogue. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I have reset the script so many times I can't count.

Thanks.
