How do you stop a "Carriage return"?

In a "Company Name field", I want to make sue the field is exited by a "Tab" and not by a "Carriage Return". I was looking through a file of mine the other day and found carriage returns everywhere, even it the State field. The only field I want to allow a carriage return is the "Notes" field.
