mad_mickey Posted February 11, 2002 Posted February 11, 2002 How do I prevent duplicate records from being created when I am importing records from an external (non filemaker) file. Checking the Unique Validation box seems to have no effect on imported records!
Steven H. Blackwell Posted February 11, 2002 Posted February 11, 2002 Imports are designed to override field validations as a general rule. The best bet would be to dedupe prior to import. You can use an interim FMP file to do this. You must define the rules as to what constitutes a duplicate. For example, if there are two different persons each named John T. Smith, that is not a duplicate. So a full dedupe may require several passes. HTH Old Advance Man
