I searched the forums, read all the topics on this one, but nothing mentioned about this.

Got an answer over in the general forum from Mr. Jaeger in Germany.

I build a mock up site to make it easier to understand what I am looking for. Please taka a look.

web page

I need to attach an Alpha numeric bar-code to a jpg file, or have the jpg # changed to that of the bar-code,

or otherwise relate the letter string to the jpg file.

Must work on PC. Not necesarely in FM. All related Hard- and Software could be bought. The bar-code

reader must be a slot reader. The cards must be sequencialy numbered and I prefer double sided plasic cards.

Eltron or Fargo will be the choice.

Thank you.

Norbert:

I had a look at your website & I'm not sure I understand the whole thing, but as far as the technical end of it, here goes:

If you were to do this in FileMaker, you would need the following:

1. Computer running FileMaker (NOT a pda, as suggested on your website.)

2. Camera attached

3. Barcode reader (why slot only? Handheld readers are much cheaper.)

A custom FileMaker solution would be created which would make the following happen:

When the photo is taken, it gets put into a FileMaker record (or even just a pointer to the photo file on the computer's hard drive.) The user is then prompted to scan their card. Voila, you're done.

If what you had on your site is what you are thinking the FileMaker solution would look like, you've got a good part of the work done already - you know what you want.

It is all doable in FileMaker, and not all that difficult.

I hope that helps.

If you need someone in New York City to do any of the work, we are located in Brooklyn, and you can reach me at [email protected]
