Creating several related records

Hi all,

Following on form my recent post in the scriptmaker forum about writing a script to create my thousands of fields, I took your advice, took a step back from my solution, contemplated it for a while and have decided to scrap the old solution and start from scratch - but with not long to go till my deadline, I'm kind of panicking a bit now.

I have started a new thread for this as it is no longer a scriptmaker query but now more of a relational one.

OK - based on your posts and a bit if thinking on part (which really hurt my head!) here is what I think I need to do to solve my problem of several thousands of fields

BTW for those who did not see my other posts I am creating tests online where a user selects their subject (a worldwide destination)and contained in this subject are up to 18 Sections they must complete. Each section can have up to 30 Questions. OK, my new theory...

3 Databases

1 - Registrations

2 - Submissions

3 - Correct Answers

What I need to do (trying to avoid scripts if possible as this is going to be hosted over the internet)

User registers (creates new record on registrations.fp5) Easy!

They have entered: Their Name, Place of Work, Destination

OK, now what I need is for this registration to trigger x number of new records to be created in submissions.fp5

x = number of sections in their chosen destination (this info is held in the correct answers database)

The new records in submissions.fp5 should contain the Name registered, then record one should be section 1, record 2 = section 2 and so on. A relationship will then automatically go of and get the correct answers for that particualar section from the correct answers database

OK? Now, the user goes onto the website and starts on section 1 submits their answers, section 2 is then "unlocked" and they can complete this

I hope you get the general idea of what I'm trying to do.

I got so close to working out how to do all this, but do you ever work on something too much, loose track of where your at, then haven't got a clue what you're doing??? NO? Well OK maybe its just me!

I'm hoping for a bit of relationship advise on this please - my head is a bit messed up at the moment over all this - and the deadline pressure isn't helping much either!

Pleeeeease can someone tell me that they have deciphered all the garble above and that they know what I'm trying to do! and you have some advise for me!

Never mind! The answer was at the bottom of a beer glass! I took a break from it and have worked out now what I need to do.

well, i guess he figured out that you dont need to create records in advance as they are created while progressing in the questionaire ...

That's right Christian, realised that the records only needed to be created one at a time, after the previous one is complete. There would be no need for 18 records to be created when they probably will not be up to the 18th section for a few months.
