Beginner - auto modification of a field when another field gets changed

Featured Replies

  • Newbies

Problem 1: Want to have the current date enter into a field when the preceding field is modified. I can't use an auto insert because the date will change when some other field is edited.

Problem 2: I'm trying to generate an ongoing history for a contact. I.e. if the "last contact date" field is changed, I want

a "comments" field to pull the previously listed date (from the same field), the person whom they spoke with (from another field), and the name of the company they spoke with (from another field).

Any help for a newbie would be appreciated.

Doug

You will have to have a plug-in to do this, such as one that will trigger a script that updates your date field when you exit the previous field. Go to www.filemaker.com and browse their plug-in section. There are at least a couple of plug-ins that do this.
