Jake Sterling Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 Is there a way to get a copy of a field's index as a list? I have a DB that collects input off the web. Often, I have several entries from the same person. I would like to use the index of one of the fields (actually a concatenation of last name and email address called "ID_Code") to create a related Parent file with only one record per "customer." In other words, I would end up with a parent file in which each customer's record would have a portal to view all the transactions listed in the original DB for that customer. I was thinking that this would be easy to do -- I would just create a new database out of the index of the ID_Code field -- but I can't figure out how to get a usable copy of the index.
Fenton Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 To create another file of unique entries, the easiest way is to export as "summarized." Create a summary type field, if you don't have one; can be anything. Sort by field you want unique instances of. Export as FileMaker. Click the little "Summarize by" button at the bottom right. In the dialog click to the left of the field name, a checkbox will appear there. You must check it, even if it's the only field.
