August 11, 200322 yr Newbies Filemaker has recently posted a Tech Info article on its website that effectively trashes OS X as a suitable host for Filemaker server. Tech info article 108428, posted 5 August, says that the only way to safely close files hosted under OS X is to manually access the server from another machine using the admin plug in and close each file by hand, one by one. This is more than just a pain. It means that there is no way to gracefully handle a forced shut down of the server computer when the administrator is not present, for example due to an overnight power cut. Having a temporary battery back-up will not protect the databases from damage because there is no automated way to organise the closure of the files during the grace period. Does this not destroy OS X as a suitable host for Filemaker Server? It does for me. See http://www.filemaker.com/ti/108428.html
August 11, 200322 yr Agreed. Several threads in this forum discuss that very issue. Hopefully FM and Apple will get together and resolve this issue. Some admins do not have the luxury of serving their applications on a Win2K system.
