nsl Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 I have two Filemaker files, same format, they are names and addresses files. I want to merge them into one file and remove any duplicate records. Is this possible, if so, how? Thanks, Nigel.
CobaltSky Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 Hello nsl, Yes, it is possible. You should open one of the files and go to the File/Import/File menu command and select the other file. In the import dialog, select the option at the bottom left to "Update matching records in found set" and then enable the checkbox below it for "Add remaining records". Then you must select which fields should be used to identify matchinbg records (you can select more than one) by clicking on the row of arrows between the two columns of fields in the main part of the dialog A double headed arrow signifies a field match, a single headed arrow signifies a conventional import. From your description, it would likely be appropriate to match on all fields (which means that any records which are identical won't be imported but any that aren't will).
