Featured Replies

Hello All

I've been wondering if it's possible to create a interface that can allow for data entry in mulitple languages or at the very least display text (such as chinese, armenian, etc next to say an english text field?? I'v noticed that I can not dictate field level fonts styles within a layout. Please any advice, techniques, and worka rounds are very welcome and appriecated.

Thank you

Hi Synergyx,

You can certainly provide fields for alternative language content, and there should be no difficulty applying a variety of 'field level font styles' to different fields within a single layout. Just go into layout mode, select each field in turn and apply the desired settings from the Format menu. These will become field level defaults when data is displayed in the corresponding field in browse mode.

If you want data entered in a given language to be automatically translated and stored in alternate languages, however, it would be necessary for you to access an external translation facility, as FileMaker does not come with built-in language translation.

For example, you should be able to configure a plug-in to send and receive translation text via one of the online translation services on the web. If you want to explore this, I'd recommend that you take a look at the Troi URL plug-in, as a starting point.
