Find from a relational file

Featured Replies

I am trying to perform a find on a field that has information from a relationship. I receive a message: No records match this request. When I am in Browse mode I can see the records and the data. When I perform the find on a field that is from the current file, it displays all the information. I need to be able to select find on any field. Can someone out there help?

This tool is new to me. Thanks,

Shari

Hello Shari,

The most likely explanation for your problem is that the match field for the relationship (the one which appears in the left-hand collumn in the 'Define Relationships' dialog) is an unstored calculation field.

Calculations don't work in find mode (there being no current record and no data for them to work from), so unless the key field values are stored, the relationship breaks when you enter find mode and the find procedure cannot 'see' any related records.
