I've read in the forums that you are not to print portals because they cause inherent problems with the printout.

Right now I am in the process of creating a report with a one-to-many relationship in several fields, and I need the "manys" printed for each "one" record. I cannot access these via a portal for the printout layout.

Can someone give me an example of the proper way to access portal fields for printing? I've been told to use a calculation to copy the information to a text field and then access that text field -- please if someone could share an example of this.

Thanks.

The method generally used is to print from the related file, and any information that needs to be included from the parent file can be accessed by a reverse relationship back to that file. The user does not need to know that printing is being done from the related file. You just have a script in the parent file that calls a print script in the related file to do the printing.
