passwords not working

Featured Replies

We have a FM 4.1 file being hosted on FM Server. Today we were able to get right into the file without a password (which should be required). It just goes right to the opening script without the password dialog window. I've taken this file off the server and opened it in FM. The passwords are there. There is one that has total access and a few with read, read/write, etc. There are no "leave blank" passwords which doesn't matter anyway because you are never prompted for a password. I opened this file in FM 6 and the same thing happens. This just happened today. We've been using this file for many years, always entering a password before being able to get into the file. I got a copy of the file from a few days ago and imported the data into it so it's temporarily fixed, but it's a concern that passwords could just not work one day. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks a lot for any ideas!

check out, in the document preferences, the field "Try default password" (or something like that).

someone may have filled it with his password...

... or the file had been opened by another related database with the password, and was hidden (Mac) or minimised (Win) and you just brought it to the front.

It's time to reproduce the problem and document the circumstances.

"I opened this file in FM 6 and the same thing happens."

Errr, FMP 4.x files need to be converted to open in FMP 6, so I don't know what this test means.
