Want more flexibility with "popups"

I like to use maximize for my screens. So.. when I use a calendar popup, I have to toggle to restore first, bring up the calendar in zoom, and then toggle back to maximize when the calendar is closed. Is there a way to bring up another file on top of the current, like a dialog box, without changing maximize? Also, how can I get more flexibility with my popup/dialog boxes? I want to be able to use drop down selections and have more then the 3-field option provided in the custom dialog box. I want to be able to do multi-level popups or dialog boxes (similar to the way developer works in FMP; for instance when you go to scripts, you can go about 3 levels deep in dialog boxes.)

Is there a plugin that will do this (and work in runtime)?
