February 2, 200125 yr I'd like to be able to have portals resorted by clicking on header fields just above the protal. Example: A portal contains the following related fields: F1, F2, F3. Above each field is a text header: "F1", "F2", "F3". When I click on the F2 header I want the portal to be resorted on F2. It appears that portal sorting is completely determind by the sort option setting in the relationship definition dialog and that this can only be set by interfacing manually with this dialog. Is this true or is there a way around this?
February 2, 200125 yr Newbies I don't think there's any clean way to do it. I only have experience with 3.0 and it doesn't allow portal sorting at all. I know some crafty types have figured out some rather cumbersome workarounds for 3.0 and earlier versions but you probably aren't running an old version. From what I've heard, those using 4.0 and up create a bunch of nearly identical layouts each with the portal sorted differently. The users click on the sort button and what really happens is they go to a different layout. Since the new layout looks like the last except for the button maybe, the user doesn't really notice that the entire screen is changing. The troublesome thing for the developer however is, anytime you change one layout, all other layouts must be changed too. Doug L.
