Is there anyway of assigning a file type to an existing container field?

I have graphics but they don't have a file type so EXPORTFM won't touch them.

None that I'm aware of. You might want to try and "trick" it by adding an extension (.jpg, .bmp, etc..) to the filename, and then try using it.
