I have a small office network - three G'4 and one IBM - everything works great together with filemaker as long as I am working on 'remote computer' If the connection sits idle for just a short time the connection is cut off and we need to reopen remote file. Is there an adjustment to lengthen out the time beore connection is closed?

Are you on FM Server? If so, there is a timeout adjustment which can be made on the server, to disconnect idle guests. Usually, that should be turned off. On a small network such as yours, there's no reason to disconnect them. It's in Preferences.
