Help with the police

Hi,

I've been trolling this forum looking for a solution, but so far haven't found it.

I'm about to start a project for a small town sheriff's office and they've asked for the following:

They want their existing database to be updated and made available to all their patrol cars (which will use laptops). The patrol cars will not be able to access the network all the time, so just serving it up isn't possible. Each car will have to have a copy of the database held locally, but it will also need to add records to the main database. Is there any slick, pre-existent or pre-made solution to accomplish this, or do I need to do all the engineering with tinfoil and chewing gum?

Any help is greatly appreciated and I bow humbly to the infinite wisdom of the forum.

Thanks!

Eric Renshaw

Check out the SyncDek website. It might be just what you are looking for.

Yep, sounds like SyncDek is exactly what you need. I recently saw a demo and was quite impressed - it is very easy to integrate into your system, and really handles all of the replication work so you don't have to worry about it.

Yes, that does look like the ticket! I'll have to see if my customer likes the price tag. Writing my own scripts for this sounds a bit daunting.

Thanks for all your help!

Eric
