March 5, 200421 yr Newbies Our server is a G5 with OSX and FM6. We have recently been experiencing issues with FM files sporadically not being accessible or viewable from the client workstations. The files are intact on the server. After recovering the files, they begin to act normally again from the client workstations. Any idea what is causing this problem? Thanks for any help you can offer.
March 7, 200421 yr Time to stop before the files become permanently broken. It sounds like you have them shared on a network file server -- people open them by double-clicking on their icons. This is the *worst* way to share FM files. As you are discovering it leads to corruption and very often becomes fatal. (BTW the Recover command does *not* fix the corruption: read FML Help to find out what it does and does not do.) The solution is to get them off a shared volume and set up a FM Host computer. It should be ideally running FM Server software but a client copy of FMP will also work. Go to the FMI web site and download the FM Server Best Practices White Paper.
