Aragorn
I just saw a post this morning about creating a search box so the user doesn't have to use the find feature directly...But now I don't remember where it is... Does anyone remember this...something about a calculated field that is related to all the fields I want to be searched? Thx Version: Developer v6 Platform: Windows XP
CyborgSam
I didn't see the post, but this is technique is the basis for many commonly used techniques: 1) Define a global field 2) Make relationship(s) from this global field to record field(s) you want to "search". 3) Make a layout with the global field (allow data entry) and portal(s) using the relation(s). 4) Enter something in the global and voila: matches show in the portal(s)! Since this is based on relationships, Find's wildcards & comparators don't work, it will only show exact matches (in FM6).
Aragorn
This one didn't mention portals...it was just a calculated field with relationships to the fields to be searched...man I wish I could find it...
