Hi all - long time since I've been here - but I've got a fresh problem.

I've developed a property database to track office and industrial buildings, their available space, etc. When I can get my hands on a photo of the building, I store the image in an images folder on the server and attach a reference to them to the building record in a container field, and I've put the container field on several report layouts I've created. The database is on our server, and I've got it passworded - I'm the administrator, and the brokers and their assistants have a different password which only allows them to search the DB. The server's Linux and running the Linux version of FileMaker Server, I'm running XP on my workstation, and the brokers and their assistants are running Win2000.

Ok, so here's the problem: When I attach a photo to a building record by putting it in the container field, I can see the photo on my computer - all of the photos, on every layout - and they print out perfectly too. However, the brokers and assistants can only see SOME of the photos. The others display an error in the container field "Could not draw picture file: (then the name of the jpg file)". I'm attaching a pdf so you can see what I mean. Some buildings have photos, some don't, but some bldgs that DO have a photo display the error - but only on the brokers' and assistants workstations and printed reports - not mine!!!

I have logged on with my password onto 3 out of the seven other workstations. On one, all I had to do was re-attach one photo, and all the other ones showed up. On another, I had to re-attach 4 photos before all the other photos began to display. On a third, it looks as it I'll have to sit and re-attach hundreds of photos. Before I do that, or go try the other workstations, I thought I'd ask you guys: What do you think is going on?

Thanks in advance for any advice, inspiration, suggestions.... Bonnie

I know this post was from a long time ago...

I have been using FM6 with FMS5.5 for years. This problem with images stored by reference not displaying has just shown up with no change in either the file server (OSX Server 10.4.x) or the FM server (5.5) (not even any OS upgrades).

The error is erratic; it appears on some clients and not others; it comes and goes for a particular image on a particular client; it affects images that were already in the database prior to the appearance of the problem.

I went to a back up of the database from before the error appeared, emptied it of records, and imported the current data into it. This did not fix the problem.

Has anyone ever figured out how to make this go away?

Thanks for any help!

P.S. This is a large multi-database solution. Upgrading to the current version of FM and FMS is not an option due to both development cost and time frame.
