Himitsu Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 This might seem like a stupid question but ... I just signed up for a dedicated server to host my files. Is it possible to run filemaker pro6 on it as a server or do I have to get filemaker server? I have no idea what to do next. there would only be two computers accessing it. Any help would be great. Thanks. Version: v6.x Platform: Windows XP
CobaltSky Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Hello Himitsu, It is possible, but not necessarily advisable nor optimal. The fact that you have dedicated hardware to serve the database is a good start, but for optimal security, stability and performance, you should consider hosting the files on FileMaker Server. There are a number of benefits including the ability to schedule backups without taking the databases offline. That said, only you can judge what the stability, integrity and ease of accessibility of the databases is worth to you, and whether the additional investment to achieve an ideal database serving set-up.
