Reed Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 I asked this question a while ago but it never got answered, and I haven't been able to find documentation for this feature. It appears that FM7 (not server) can save a copy of a file while other P2P FM7 clients are connected. FM6 could not do this. Is this a feature of the new architecture, or is it a bug that only I have noticed? Thanks Version: v7.x Platform: Mac OS X Panther
Vaughan Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 I'm using FMDev 7 as a host on a G4 MacOS X 10.2.8. Yes it can save a copy of a file, but only when it acting as the host. However the client cannot cannot save a copy of the hosted file. This is good.
Reed Posted March 23, 2004 Author Posted March 23, 2004 Does FM7 pause the DB in a fashion similar to the way FMS 5.5 does in order to properly back up "live" data?
The Shadow Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 FM7 incorporates a pause during the save a copy operation to ensure the integrity of the copy. However, the pause operation is less restrictive in FM7, as it allows hosted users to continue with queries and browsing, it only stops users that are attempting to change the DB.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 "Does FM7 pause the DB in a fashion similar to the way FMS 5.5 does in order to properly back up "live" data? " This entire process will change completely with the relese of FileMaker Server 7. Steven
