Finding an email address without having to use....

Featured Replies

"double quotes" around it.

Filemaker requires that "" be placed around the email address because of the @ sign embedded in it. My problem is compounded since I am trying to access the database from a CDML website. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

The @ symbol is used as a wildcard search character in FMP. So if they say you need to put quotes around it, you do.

I'm not sure how a search through IWP or CWP makes it worse.

Thanks Vaughan, I have a link on the website that searches the DB based on the email address. Is it possible to use a script to place "" around the email address prior to the search?

Ray

Can't they just be typed into the field?

Vaughan, the user does type in the "" with their email address when looking up

their data and that works fine.

Later in the process I use the [FMP-currenttoken] which contains the actual email

address from the data base to do a -find action. The find comes up empty handed

since there are no "" around the email address.

Vaughan, I appreciate your interest in my question. I have decided to do the following to resolve the issue. Create a calculated field equal to the email address without the @ sign. When searching for their record, users will enter their email address without the @ sign. Users creating a new record must enter their email address normally.

Thanks again,

Ray
