hiding records in mulitple layouts

I have one file, with 2 different layouts. I would like to hide certain records from layout one, but would like to see these records in layout 2. When I try this, the records disappears from both layouts.

Can this be done?

Platform: Mac OS X Panther

You could script switching between layouts and disallow the use of the layout menu. Then you would just add a find[] step before the layout change, and control which records are shown
