I've published a long post, last week, about this concern with the living explainations (entire script steps), but it's disappeared !!

For short, follow these steps:

  • create a calculated field (for each record) in which you store the standardized (capitalized) first letter of your text field

  • at the search time (in find mode, i mean) fill this field with the letter you need to search for, then perform the search.

  • note that this trick also works in intervals: you can search also "A...Z" !

For better results i use an appropriate search form, in which user fills global fields (in browse mode), then i switch in find mode filling the appropriate fields (with the contents of globals) and finally i perform the search.

It's a fly also on large databases !

Regards
