Cannot make global fileds work in header area!

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am working on two different solutions and in one of them when I insert a global filed on the "header" or "title header" areas they become inactive!

This is happening while I have global fields are working normaly on the "header" part in my other solution.

I'm totally confused. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Saeedd

FileMaker Version: 6

Platform: Windows 95/98

Hello Sadmot,

In FileMaker version 6, global fields are inaccessible when placed in the header or footer of a layout that is being displayed using the 'View As List' option (whereas they are accessible in 'View as Form'). That is likely the source of your problem.

If you will be continuing to use FileMaker v6, you might wish to create a script sequence which invokes the Show Custom Dialog script step to edit the value in the global, then attach the script to the field so that you can still edit it when clicking on it in a list header.

FWIW, fields are accessible in list headers in FileMaker v7 - this is a v6 problem. So if you're thinking of migrating to the new version at some point, that will resolve the issue without requiring any scripting.

Thank you Ray,

You were right. I was in List view. I'll try the Show Custom Dialog as I am not going to migrate for a while.

Thanks again,

Sadmot
