[FP5] blind copy mass email

Featured Replies

I would like to send a mass email from Filemaker to Outlook, but use the bcc feature in Outlook so everyone doesn't have to scroll through a huge list of email address at the top of their email. There is a cc feature in the Sent Email dialog box, but is there a way to do a bcc?

FileMaker Version: 5

Platform: Windows XP

Hi,

The ability to specify a bcc address (or list of addresses as in this case) directly from FileMaker is a new feature introduced in version 7. Given that you are working with v5, here are three options you might like to consider:

1. Use the Open URL to pass data to the default email client via the installed browser, bypassing the Send Mail[ ] step.

2. Install a third-party email plug-in that provides bcc capabilities (there are several available, but SMTPit from CNS is a good place to start).

3. Upgrade to v7

You can also script the send mail so that you are only sending one at a time, to each person on your selected contact list. You can even personalize it (ie. Hello namefield). Depending on how many emails you are sending, it may take awhile, and it will lock you out of Filemaker until it is done. Mail sent with attachments will take longer. I sent an email out to about 150 addresses (no attachments) and it took about 10 minutes to complete.

FileMaker Version: Dev 6

Platform: Windows XP

10 minutes seems long... sending through entourage X with a looping send mail[] only takes about 1-2 minutes for me with 150 addresses.
