Newbies newbie2FM Posted April 13, 2004 Newbies Posted April 13, 2004 Hi, I am new to FM and will like to know how can I link to other files. In other words I have a layout that has subgroups which list other subgroups that when selected accesses other files outside of the file. Any help is appreciated FileMaker Version: 6 Platform: Windows XP
Reed Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 In FM6, you would define a relationship from one file to another, where the value of a field in one file is equal to the value of a field in the related file. For instance, File A contains contact(person) info and File B contains company info. A company ID field would be created in both files. if company XYZ has companyID of 1, and you want to say that Bob Smith works for company A, assign the companyID field in the Bob Smith record to 1. You can then place any fields from the company file on the layout in the contacts file (company name, address, etc.) and that information will show based on the company ID value for each person.
Newbies newbie2FM Posted April 13, 2004 Author Newbies Posted April 13, 2004 Thanks you for the prompt response. So what you are saying is that I have to show a relationhip between file A and File B, so layout 1 from file A can access layout 2 from File B. If so how do I do that?
