If I put a certain file in the autoupdate folder on filemaker server 5.5, say a word template (.dot) that I use with macros to perform a mail merge - can I use the filemaker auto update feature to download an updated version of that file on startup?

By simply going External ("FMSAUC-UpdatePlugin", "letterplain42.dot") or something?

Basically is the autoupdate plugin restricted to just plugins/.fmx files or could I use it for other support files that I use with our database?

Flipping handy if I can auto download new versions of our templates to clients rather than having to add it to our network startup scripts.

FileMaker Version: 5

Platform: Windows 2000

YES!!!

Turns out it is.

I've tried it and it works with Mac or Windows.

Obviously if there is a file with that name there already then it is simply moved to the 'Saved' folder and the new one put in its place.

Fantastic - another useful tool!!
