schotja Posted April 21, 2004 Posted April 21, 2004 So much new learning and was hoping to be pointed in the right direction. How would one begin entering a company name (partial) and have it pull in a list of matches in the related portal? FileMaker Version: 7 Platform: Windows 2000
Reed Posted April 21, 2004 Posted April 21, 2004 to match a partial name, you need a calc field in the related file with a multi-key value. Smith would be: S Sm Smi Smit Smith You could do this using the left function If you have FM 7 Developer, you can go to www.clevelandconsulting.com... their forums have a section on custom functions. There is a recursive function called Exploded Key that you can use to match an arbitrarily long string.
schotja Posted April 21, 2004 Author Posted April 21, 2004 Wow that was quick!! I looked up the cleveland consulting link and am assuming since i don't have developer 7 yet that the exploded key is specific to that version. Seems very simple to use though. Unfortunately i'll have to try to figure it out the old fasioned way. Can you be a bit more specific on the calc?
schotja Posted April 21, 2004 Author Posted April 21, 2004 I was relentless and found a reference on the fmpro tips that was pretty detailed. Mirrored what i was trying to develop almost exactly. You must have seen the same one. Anyone interested can do a search for clairvoyance!! Amazingly 1 hit!! Not hundreds to sift through! Thanks for your help.....you pointed me in the right direction!
carlschneider Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 This is great, but I am not sure how to use it. Here is the direct link for reference: http://www.clevelandconsulting.com/support/viewtopic.php?t=49&highlight=clairvoyance Do I create another calculation field with this as the calculation or do I use it in a script? I'm confused. Any direction would be appreciated!
