importing text file problems

Featured Replies

I'm running 5.5v1 (the 5.5v2 updater can't find filemaker pro to update) and am trying to test moving to OSX (panther) from 9.2.2. I was waiting for the EPS printing problem to get fixed before updating.

The problem is that I'm trying to import some files. They are text files (tab-separated) and they come from a PC. The 9.2.2 process is to run CTC to change the end-of-line character to x0A and then File/Import Records and they show up in the openfile dialog and I select the one I want and select tab-separated text and click Open and it works. When I'm in OS X.3.3, and select File/Import Records, I get the openfiles dialog box, but the files that I just imported are all greyed out, as if I don't have permission to open them, I've done a terminal window and checked the permission, and they are 777, everyone do everything. The files that are pre-OSX are 755. I've chmod'd these files to 755, but they are still greyed out.

Help!

Problem is that the files show up w/o a "Type" and "CreatorCode" assigned to them. I added the suffixes of the files to import to controlpanels/Internet - FileMapping - Advanced.

I then ran CTC again and set the Type and Creator Code to "TEXT" and "R*ch" and thereafter it shows up in the openfile dialog box.

Okay, so why can't the 5.5v2 updater not find FMPro 5.5v1?

Thanks!
