I have a relationship that I keep checking. I have a field with a serial number called "Controlnumber" in a table called "REgistration" and I have a table called "A" and there is a field in there called "ControlA" . I set up a relationship between the two tables

"A" and "Registration" and then I assign the look ups of three other fields in table

"A" based on that relationship., Check everything and keep trying and it just doesn't work.

any help appreciated. I think this relationship thing in 7 is difficult and maybe buggy.

You named a table "A"?? Is that for Apples, Assignments, Aiens? What is it your system is supposed to track?

So is this right?

A record in Lane A can have many Registrations

A Registration can be assigned to one Lane A record

No A record in Lane A has one registration per record.

A Registration can be assigned to one Lane A record

That is it

Well, I don't really understand why you are using a one-to-one here. Usually one-to-one relationships can be elimiated and the tables combined (there are some useful exceptions).

But in any case, you can set up your table occurance graph by linking the control field in the two tables. Then for the lookup fields, set the lookups based on that relationship. I have not seen or heard of any bugginess with relationships or lookups in FM7.

Thanks Ender. I did the exact same type of file . I will attach it for you. So I know I can do it. but it doesn't work in the big file I have been working on. I called filemaker and they haven't even helped me. I seem to have done everything right. I am enclosing the file I did to show them I could do it. I am at my wits end.
