From independent to employee ... my clients?

Hi,

I have recently started working as an independent FMP developer and have a couple of clients, one of them is pretty big.

I have some options of starting to work for a FMP consulting company, that will give me great training and experience.

If I worked for the consulting firm my clients will become theirs, so I wonder if, in this kind of situation, I have the right to ask for a percentage of the money the company would make with "my" clients.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I guess you can consider your existing clients as "goodwill" and it might be reasonable to expect some remuneration of some kind.

You always have the right to ask. And your new employer always has the right to decline.

I think you would have to weigh the pros and cons of working for the consulting company. Working for the consulting company may provide job stability and benefits, but what "personal benefits" would you be giving up? Also, is this company wanting to hire you just to gain your clients? Those are the questions I would be asking myself.

Mike
