I have a One->many relationship. In a script in the one file (activated by a button called, say, "New Line Item", I want to create a new record in the many file, then set some field values in this record using SetField

This is driving me crazy, as I cannot see how to do this. The "New Record" script step only applies to the current file.

Look on your relationship if the checkbox "Allow creation of related records" is checked, checking it you will create records on your portal automatically without performing a script to do it.
