When a button is clicked in Mac, underlying graphics are dimmed. In Windows, however, the area is completely color-inverted. This is really ugly in a database of photographic images, where the images themselves are used as buttons (e.g. to switch between thumbnail and main photo).

Is there any solution that would be portable - not dependent upon a user resetting their machine preferences?
