Disappearing fields on running script from portal

Hi everyone,

Can you help me with this one please?

I am running a script from a button within a portal. this shows a dialogue box containing the contents from a related record (using Troi's Dialogue Plug-in)

Two other very similar scripts (which are NOT activated from within the portal) work fine, and enable me to view both the contents of the dialogue box and an important field in the current file at the same time.

My problem is that although the one running from the portal button shows the dialogue box with the related data in it, the contents of the field in the current file disappears until the dialogue box is cancelled.

one clue that might be helpful to someone is that when I click on the button a dotted line appears around the field that subsequently disappears.

I have tried all manner of work-arounds - all to no avail ... can someone help me please?

Very many thanks

CJ.

Does the field in the portal have a fill colour specified? Perhaps the "highlight" colour is the same as the background colour.

Thanks for looking at this for me Vaughan,

The field who's contents disappears isn't in the portal, but rather is on the general layout. It is a transparent field formatted to be at the very front and has black text on a white background. The button I am using is in the portal and calls related data from a join file. When the button is executed the data temporarily disappears until the dialogue box is exited.

"it is a transparent field... black text on a white background"

Transparent fields use the layout part fill colour to determine what the highlight colour should be -- which can be confusing. Try filling the field with white.

From an earlier post... "the contents of the field... disappears"

If the contents of the fields gets selected, the highlight colour might be black... black text on black background disappears...

Hi Vaughan,

Have checked this, and as it happens the highlight colour was white but having made the field opaque it has solved the problem.

This is great but also a real bind as I have used transparency on about 100 layouts to allow users to be able to see through the field to pick up page layout guidance. - Oh well yet more hours down to experience, and another work around required!

Thanks very much for your help with this. Much appreciated. grin.gif

I hope you charge by the hour -- especially for self-projects. I do! wink.gif
