computer so and so is modifiying record

Featured Replies

This problem doesn't happen all the time. Im running a multi-site DB and this problem didn't develop till I brought up the other site. The portal shows the active clients and related info. Clicking on the record # takes you to another file where the record resides. The relationship is based on a calc field called status in which it either states "Active" or "InActive" on the record end, and on the interface its a field that has "Active" in it. When an employee is finished with said record, it takes them out of that file to my interface file (main menu).

When it gives me the message "computer so and so is modifiying record" it says that for every record thats in the portal in the other file. I have to call the other location or goto offending computer and just click anywhere on the screen and problem solved. I have written a script attachment that would leave you in a field and then goto that layout. That doesn't work either..I have put pause for one second in the ending of the script too thinking it might release me out of the portal. But like i said b4 it doesnt happen every time. For there password I have it set up to disconnect when idle and that help out greatly. Thinking there might be a bottle neck in the DB, Im monitoring the link for kbits a sec and im no where near even 1 mgbit a sec. Also @ the far end of the network the computers want to sort every time i change the status.. not sure whats up w/that.. i was thinking that it might be a network bottleneck issue but like i just stated, i dont think so. any heeep would be greatly appreciated!

[Think outside the bo]x

I believe that the first record in the portal will cause the most problems with locking. I've heard of people putting in a dummy record that appears in the first row and using conditional scripting to trap navigation.

I also think that v7 has a different transaction model so that record-locking and portals won't be such a problem.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Dana

v7 is much improved. v6 would lock a record as soon as you clicked in, v7 waits until you start typing.

This was a problem at my company, anyone who clicks in to a large text field to view it all is holding the lock mad.gif - now fixed in v7. grin.gif
