Cannot Administrate FM7

Featured Replies

We just put FMS7 on a Win2000 Server machine. I have followed the directions, but cannot connect to the server to set it up. I have tried localhost via the admin console on the server itself and via remote (which stated that remote admin had not been setup on the server).

I did notice that the IP address for the localhost was different from the IP of the machine itself. I cannot set the machine to the 127.0.0.1 as it is a "loopback" address. I do not seem to be able to edit the localhost in the favorites menu of console. It may be that we have a bum CD, the admin pdf file cannot be opened.

What exactly is happening when you try and connect? Are you getting a message similar to "Could not connect to FileMaker Server (localhost)(127.0.0.1)"?

Certainly sounds like the Server Service is not running. Perhaps during install you selected "Manual Start" which would require you to "start up" the server before you could actually connect to it.

Open up the Services and see if FileMaker Server and FileMaker Helper are both "started." If so, stop and restart them and see if that makes a difference.

Solved the problem. It turned out that the server was not at SP4. I did not think that would make such a difference, but it did. I guess it pays to read the requirements before installing that software.
